Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyse the descriptive procedures used in French tourist guides. By taking several tourist guides the Guide du Routard, Voyager pratique and Petit Futé we propose to describe the specificities of this type of discourse where mix discursive subtypes such as scientific (description of the parts of monuments), popular (popularized expressions to approach readers on holiday) and literary (metaphors, adjectives). In the second part of our study, we present the specific syntagmatic units for the tourist discourse.
