Castle Hill, Almondbury: A Further Investigation of the Annexe

Abstract

Abstract As a result of his 1947 excavations at Castle Hill, W.J. Varley included a north-eastern annexe as an integral part of the hillfort’s development, an interpretation that has subsequently been cited extensively in the literature. However, the results of excavations carried out in 2017 do not substantiate Varley’s findings.
