The paper provides an overview of the degradation phenomena characteristic for reinforced concrete bridges, as well as a classification of degradation stimulators and degradation mechanisms showing their mutual conditions. The characteristics of typical degradation processes, usually combinations of two or more degradation mechanisms, are also presented. A hierarchical multi-level classification of damage to the bridge structure type concerned was proposed, as well as the relationship between the most common degradation mechanisms and class-specific damage was shown. Abstract: The unambiguous identification of degradation processes and the damage they cause is a very important part of the diagnostics of bridge facilities and, as a result, has a fundamental impact on the efficient management of the maintenance and operation of transport infrastructure.
