The global south represents the complex socio-cultural context of the majority world, wherein modern or global theories of childhood originating in the global north are contested. Abstract

The term “the value of the child” was coined by economists in the context of demographic transition and fertility, emphasizing economic and cultural aspects. However, the scope of the value of the child was confined to a cost-benefit analysis.
