Floppy Infant with Respiratory Failure: A Case of Infantile Polymyositis

Abstract

An eleven month old infant presented with progressive proximal muscle weakness, hypotonia and elevated creatinekinase. Muscle biopsy showed inflammatory changes suggestive of polymyositis. Infantile polymyositis, an inflammatory myopathy affecting children under 1 year of age is a rare disorder but potentially treatable. Early diagnosis is crucial for better outcome.
