Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyze the novel Pasion y muerte del cura Deusto (1924) written by the Chilean author Augusto D’Halmar (1882-1950), who was first National Literature Prize winner. Specifically, the aim is to evaluate the relationship between homoerotic desire and the city of Seville in order to mark the contrast between the local gaze versus the foreigner one. In addition, he tried to present it as a way of framing one of the first Spanish stories written with a homoerotic theme. Thus, we will seek to answer the following questions: i) what is the function of the city of Seville and its rites according to the theme and development of the novel?, and ii) how is the idea of the location of desire shaped?
Methodologically, this research will be approached from cultural studies in order to highlight the connection between desire and city, taking into account the postulates of authors such as Severo Sarduy, Fernando Ainsa or Michel Foucault, among others.
