Abstract

Mahan Ellison’s book follows the rich tradition of scholarly monographs written on or about Africa and the growing number of critical studies on Africa in Western and specifically Spanish literature. Although Africa, as a geographical space, has appeared for centuries in Spanish literature, the issues about Africa start burgeoning in the second half of the twentieth century. A reader could easily ask why Ellison focuses on the historical interval between 1990 and 2010. The author states that
