Abstract

Butterflies are a type of insect from the order lepidoptera which have an important role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. However, the diversity of butterfly species in Indonesia is under threat of extinction. In the area of the Palangkaraya University (UPR) forest area has experienced quite extensive forest fires so that it directly impacts the habitat of butterflies and the pollution caused by smoke. The research objective was to identify the types of butterflies in Palangkaraya University on land after burning and land which had not been burned. The research method uses field observation methods with net sweeping and roaming techniques. The results of the identification of butterfly species carried out around the UPR area showed that the total number of butterfly species found was 10 species belonging to four families respectively, namely Nymphalidae family (3 types), Pleridae family (5 species), Papilionidae (1 species), and Lycaenidae (1 species), with a total number of 30 individuals, which are dominated by Acraea terpsicore.
