Abstract

Objective

To characterize the satisfaction of general practitioners with the preparation of natural and traditional medicine (NTM) received in undergraduate studies at the Facultad de Ciencias Médicas «Dr. José Assef Yara» from Ciego de Ávila.

Design

Descriptive and cross-sectional study during the period from May 2018 to April 2019.

Location

Participants

A total of 43 residents of the specialty of Comprehensive General Medicine were selected, by means of an intentional non-probabilistic sampling, because they were first- and second-year residents of the specialty and had completed their intrahospital rotation time in Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics and Internal Medicine Services.

Method

It was applied a questionnaire that allowed to characterize the state of satisfaction of the residents with the preparation of NTM received in undergraduate, as well as the indicators that influenced it.

Results

An analysis of the results obtained was carried out, which generally recognized a low percentage of satisfaction, influencing the active participation in practical activities, the accessibility of the bibliography, the use of teaching aids and the amount of time dedicated to the NTM activities.

Conclusions

The characterization of the current state of satisfaction of general practitioners with the approach of the contents of the NTM exposed the higher percentage of satisfaction for the discipline of comprehensive general medicine. The greatest dissatisfactions corresponded to Morphophysiology, the disciplines of General Training, Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology.
