Abstract

: A phytochemical study of the rhizomes of Monstera deliciosa has led to isolation of fourteen compounds ( 1 - 14 ) for the first time from the plant species. The structure elucidation was carried out using 1D and 2D NMR data. The cytotoxic activities of the compounds against the liver (HepG-2), larynx (Hep-2), colon (HCT-116), and breast (MCF-7) cancer cell lines were evaluated using MTT assay. Syringaresinol ( 6 ) showed remarkable IC 50 values against the four tested cell lines.
