Abstract

Keith Lemna’s The Apocalypse of Wisdom comes highly recommended for specialists and graduate students interested in the reception history of John Henry Newman’s thought, particularly as it manifested in the French Ressourcement movement of the twentieth century. It also comes recommended for those interested in diving deeply into Newman’s spirituality. The significance of the Anglo neo-Platonic tradition for Newman is often overlooked in studies of Newman’s epistemology and spirituality. Lemna, in his exposition of Bouyer, brings this important aspect of Newman’s thought to life, while at the same time demonstrating its influence on one of the most significant theologians of the twentieth century.
