Abstract
Abstract In this interview, the Anglo-Afghan travel writer Tahir Shah talks to Nida Ambreen about his travels to the hidden underbellies of the world and his experiences on his very first travels and more recent trips. Tahir also discusses his love for the different cultures and societies that he has experienced while travelling as a writer, a love which is quite visible in all his works, whether fiction or non-fiction, journalism or photography. His most famous works— Beyond the Devil’s Teeth, The Caliph’s House, In Arabian Nights, and many more—describe his journeys to various places in India, Africa, and Latin America, valuable sources of knowledge about the cultures and societies of these places. Shah also notes that for him stories play a prominent role in teaching, hence the need for stories to be passed on from one generation to the next.
