Abstract

This paper aims to integrate the socio-ecological critique of capitalist valorization with some indications developed in the post-colonial debate and the neo-materialist perspectives. It builds on an analysis of the land grab phenomena and its connections with recent agricultural development policies, involving green and bio-economy promotion in Sub-Saharan Africa. It firstly expands on the relationships between the neoliberal ecological regime and the racialized pattern of colonial appropriation that inform current agrarian governance processes. Then, re-calling the results of a case study on a land-deal conflict in the north of Senegal, it discusses the interest of a political ecology approach focused on a post-colonial reading of world-ecology, able to include in the narrative of capitalocene the alternative and subaltern socio-ecological stories that inhabit it. This, it will be argued, offers a useful perspective to re-imagine socio-ecological transition as a plural and more-than-human process.

Sociologia urbana e rurale is the only Italian journal dedicated to environmental and territorial sociology. Theoretical and empirical studies are published, with most connected to urban and rural changes. Particular attention is paid to the following topics: spatial and social forms in urban and rural areas; poverty and social exclusion; local and international migration; environmental topics; urban and architectural planning; tourism; new urban populations. Other types of article are also accepted, touching on methodological aspects, the history of rural and urban studies, bibliographic research into particular topics. Our journal is also interested in strengthening links with other disciplines, particularly with architecture, urban planning and geography. Italian and international scholars are involved in our journal, which is the reason why a number of prominent European and American sociologists are members of the Steering Committee. Each issue has a monographic section, which is edited by one or two authors selected by the Steering Committee. The second section ( Studi e ricerche) is focused on research reports, comments on topics related to the discipline, and bibliographic research. Each issue also has space for the review of Italian and international books. Every year, the Steering Committee plans topics for each monographic section. The editors are free to post a request for a paper on the journal''s webpage and on the website of the AIS Territorial Sociology Section, or to request contributions directly from potential authors. The Committee might also consider proposals for the monographic section. All articles are required to have a strong theoretical base, although significant empirical results are also greatly appreciated. Unsolicited and unpublished articles from prominent scholars are also accepted, with the possibility that some might be published in their original language.
