Abstract
This article provides an account of the dragonesque brooch recovered during excavations in Walton, West Yorkshire in the summer of 2020. This find was recovered from a secure context in an enclosure ditch, which is important to note as despite the growing number of dragonesque brooches, most are found through metal detecting and lack extra contextual information. Excavation works revealed two large ditch features which formed a ‘clothes-line’ enclosure along an earlier boundary ditch, and some small internal pits were recorded. Specialist analysis of finds and environmental samples dated the site to the Iron Age to Romano-British period. A full account of the site, finds and catalogue data is provided in the archive report by Howard (2021).
