: The family physician deals with fre-quent illnesses in families or individuals, but from a family perspective. To do this he must learn and dominate several skills that allow him to obtain and interpret reliable information and perform educa-tional and therapeutic interventions to help families deal with their stressful events, avoid crises and encourage the growth of each member individual-ly and as a functional unit. The objective of this presentation is to show the application of conceptual, perceptive and executive skills by the family physician as an integral approach of a patient with irritable bowel syndrome.
