Among the “museum displays” mentioned earlier are 16 foldout tables each summarizing a world system or doctrine of the spheres (from Plato and Cicero through to Dante and Kepler); 79 figures and illustrations, 16 of them in color; and a 71-page bibliography. It is a big, impressive, ambitious book, one to be explored and enjoyed at one’s leisure, whose usefulness is limited only by its surprising lack of an index.
