Abstract

86 Depression is one of the most common psychiatric disorders which encompasses a cluster of symptoms including emotional, somatic and cognitive. The main characteristic of depression is low mood or anhedonia with other symptoms like decreased concentration, decreased appetite, insomnia, fatigue, thoughts of guilt, worthlessness, and hopelessness. To be diagnosed with depression, the above-mentioned symptoms must be present for at least two weeks. It affects 121 million people worldwide. Depression is currently the second cause of disability and the fourth highest contributor to the burden of diseases according to the WHO; it is expected to be the second after cardiovascular diseases by 20201.
