Abstract. A Nearctic predaceous midge, Sphaeromias gilvus Grogan, new species, is described from Alabama based on adult females, and new locality records are provided for S. bifidus Wirth and Grogan. Diagnostic characters of this new species are included in photomicrographs and a key is provided to the three Nearctic species of Sphaeromias.
