Abstract

Abstract The Electronic Literature Lab (ELL) contains over 300 works of born digital literature collected over the last 25 years. It is the largest single personal collection of this kind of media. Moreover, the lab has become the hub of archival activity for the Electronic Literature Organization (ELO) and is the site for the development of the organization’s repository where the fifteen collections of electronic literature owned or managed by the ELO will be preserved. This essay discusses the archival practices of ELL, focusing on its criteria for selecting works to archive and challenges it faces when working with digital media that is participatory, experiential, and interactive.
