Abstract
The objective of this experiment was to establish the effect of bypass fat on milk production in dairy cows in subtropical weather conditions. 80 Holstein Friesian x Brown Swiss cows, 1 to 5 deliveries with a weight for primiparas of 480 to 540 kg and for multiparas of 560 to 600 kg were used. Information was collected retrospectively from the individual cards of the milk production cows during the first 100 days postpartum. Data were separated for the years that bypass fat was added and those that were not. A 2x2 factorial analysis was used where the corresponding factor A was years of supply of excess fat and years without supply of bypass fat (control) and factor B: number of deliveries (primiparous; multiparous), and 20 cows were used per treatment for a total of 80 animals in a completely randomized experimental design. The results indicated the supply of bypass fat to dairy cows improves milk production between days 25, 50 and 75 postpartum in multiparous cows, differing significantly between treatments (p≤0.01). It was concluded that adding 125 grams of bypass fat in the daily ration in multiparous cows improves their milk production by 20%.
