Abstract
South Africa’s position on the war in Ukraine, which has implicitly and at times explicitly supported Russian rhetoric and behaviour, has undercut Pretoria’s longstanding policies upholding state sovereignty and territorial integrity; the peaceful resolution of disputes; respect for the United Nations Charter and international law; and the promotion of multilateralism as a practical instrument for global problem-solving.
