Abstract

These books show the boons of an interdisciplinary approach to religion. In Framing Mary, 12 scholars from anthropology, art history, history, literature, and religious studies engage the Mother of God in modern, revolutionary, and post-Soviet Russian culture. In Saint-Making in Early Modern Russia, Isolde Thyrêt single-handedly musters these disciplines to examine the manylayered cult of Nil Stolobenskii. Both books show the maturity of current scholarship on Russian religion and open pathways for more.  
