Abstract

Sjögren’s syndrome (SjS) is a chronic autoimmune disease that may be primary or secondary to other connective tissue disorders, particularly rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and systemic sclerosis. SjS is clinically characterized by sicca symptoms, which develop due to a mononuclear infiltration and secondary chronic dysfunction of the lacrimal and salivary glands.
