While one may be sympathetic to such an effort, it is a risky enterprise in a world where attacking science is a part of current political practice, a challenge she duly acknowledges. Science, she says, must never be reduced to a matter of identity politics. Decolonising science is not about ‘offering a new kingdom of thought to replace the disciplines’ (p. 178), but rather to transform our thinking about what it is to know. Her insights are an inspiring contribution to the efforts to ‘think athwart’ and the book deserves to be read with attention and care.

First, it examines the evolution of environmental movements and parties. Second it provides analysis of the making and implementation of public policy in the area of the environment at international, national and local levels. Third, it carries comment on ideas generated by the various environmental movements and organisations, and by individual theorists. Fourth, it aims to cover the international environmental issues which are of increasing salience.
