Abstract

The existence of the Fábrica de Cerâmica Lusitânia is intrinsically associated with the development of national civil construction. Its business dynamics, based on technological development, allowed the production of innovative but essential materials for civil construction, a fundamental fact for the projects planned for the expansion of the city of Lisbon in the first half of the th century. Also in the area of tiles, Fábrica de Cerâmica Lusitânia played an important role through the development of projects in different places in Portugal, the introduc-tion of innovative methods and the hiring of one of the main national artists: Jorge Colaço.
