Abstract
Legal pragmatism, whilst a dominant approach to national law, appears to have been neglected when Norwegian lawyers approach international law. After having briefly presented the major theoretical schools within international law, and in particular pointed out the deficiencies of the approach of the global formalists, the author introduced what he refers to as international law pragmatism. A legal pragmatic approach to international law focuses on the consequences of international law provisions and application of these, rather than their good intentions, at the same time as it does not link its normativity to interest-politics.
