Abstract
Objective
To study the effects of nickel-titanium memory alloy nail-feet-fixator, Herbert screw and Kirschner wire on blood supply in scaphoid bone using visual digital model of scaphoid with intraosseous vessels.
Methods
Twelve human forearm specimens were perfused with arterial blood vessels, scanned by micro-CT and reconstructed by Mimics 20.0 software. The reconstructed data were analyzed and compared with the digital models of three internal fixation devices.
Results
In this study, the visualized digital model of scaphoid with blood supply was combined with three kinds of internal fixation devices to reconstruct the composite model and construct the safe zone of scaphoid nutrient artery. Among them, nickel-titanium memory alloy nail-feet-fixator has the characteristics of less vascular interference.
Conclusion
The digital model can be used intuitively in the study of internal fixators. All three kinds of internal fixators are located in the safe zone of scaphoid nutrient vessels. Among them, nickel-titanium memory alloy nail-feet-fixator has less interference to internal vessels than Herbert screw and Kirschner wire.
