Abstract

Historically speaking, the colonial expansion of European powers was an essential condition of their continuous economic growth. The era of colonialism was marked by a constant migration of Europeans to the territories that they had conquered. Due to colonialism, Western capitalism still dominates the global economy, whereas poverty and armed conflicts in the Global South – all too frequently the direct offspring of colonialism – have triggered an ongoing migration to the Western world.
