O feminino e o obsceno em tempos de ditadura: O caso da revista Realidade e o Supremo Tribunal Federal

Abstract

This article analyzes the prohibition of the circulation and the seizure of copies of Realidade [Reality] magazine in 1968, due to a ruling by one of Sao Paulo’s juvenile courts. In a decision upheld by the State Judiciary, the magistrate judge declared that the publication could be termed under material prohibited by the Media Law for obscene content, with such content consisting of an issue focusing on matters of female interest featuring a series of articles that purposely emphasized female points of view and values. The text aims to shed light on details of the Supreme Federal Court’s historic ruling, which granted the appeal filed by the publisher, performing a technical analysis on the conflicting opinions on the controversy.
