Abstract
This essay tries to problematize the gap between the Christian ideal and what is actually achieved by the Church from traditional catechetical activity, an obvious gap that causes strong distress among young people in particular.
The question that arises is what catechesis is necessary to illuminate the social gaze of Christians. Thus, we arrive at the proposal of a catechesis far from the traditional model, all too often focused on obtaining a sacrament, almost turning our backs on the concrete life of the people; especially, little sensitive to the sociopolitical commitment that springs from the Gospel.
This proposal implies a certain number of consequences for the traditional ways in which catechesis is organized at the local level, and in the way in which formative itineraries are designed.
