Abstract

Several broadband applications employ OFDM due to its reliability to support high-speed data transmission for 4G and 5G systems. However, OFDM signals have a large peak to average power ratio (PAPR) value associated with it which is highly undesirable since it degrades the bit error rate performance at the receiver. The proposed SMaCS inherits the advantage of spatial mapping and companding scheme to minimize PAPR with less computational complexity. The SMaCS method achieves PAPR reduction without aggravating the out-of-band radiation. The SMaCS achieves PAPR reduction by 9.55 dB compared to the original OFDM signal. With 512 subcarriers the efficiency of SMaCS in terms of PAPR performance has increased by 34.9%. Also, the effectiveness of SMaCS is justified for 16QAM modulated OFDM signal with 512 and 1024 subcarriers when transmitted through a additive white Gaussian noise channel.
