Abstract
This research article describes an in-depth literature review on the relationship between Technology and Language Teaching, particularly concerning the discipline of Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL). First, we will make a brief chronological tour from the origins of Computer Assisted Language Learning, and will analyze its evolution until the present time, making a detailed review of the state of art. Next, we will study current issues related to CALL, especially mobile language learning, Open Courseware, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC), Virtual Learning Environments, gamification, the use of social networks and Blended Learning. Finally, a reflection on the role of CALL in current teaching in general and language teaching in particular will be shown, providing a sustainable vision on the contribution of the discipline to the new role of foreign language teachers in the education of the 21st century
