Abstract
. The article examines the duration of introductions in contemporary Bulgarian pop and rock songs, created between the 90s of the XX century and the 20s of the XXI century. A total of 44 hits from this period and from the previous one were explored. The songs have occupied the first places in the music charts of specialized Bulgarian media. The hypothesis investigated is that there is a tendency for short duration and even lack of introduction in the works. A comparative method and analysis were used to prove or reject this assumption. They confirm the hypothesis of an evolving process of weakening the function of introduction in contemporary Bulgarian pop and rock songs. The study found a new pattern - the minimized form of instrumental introductions led to changes in their content, requiring them to be extremely bright and impactful in a very limited time span. The short and missing instrumental introduction in contemporary Bulgarian pop and rock songs proves to be a new structural technique and a composite tool for aesthetic suggestion. The result of this is manifested in the liking of these songs from the first listen and turning them into hits.
