In 2020, I made an inventory of rat genes that had been identified as underlying diseases or playing a key role in critical biological processes that are altered in diseases. Over 350 genes could be found, a significant number of which have similar effects in rat and humans (Szpirer in J Biomed Sci 27:84-155, 2020). However, a few rat disease genes were unintentionally overlooked; in addition, since this review was published, numerous rat genes were inactivated by targeted mutations, revealing their potential role in diseases. Abstract
