Abstract

The hypothesis is restated that psychogenic somatic symptoms are localized at that part of the body which is felt by the patient to contain his ego and which is therefore most vital to him. This investigation confirms the prediction that patients with psychogenic headaches are more likely to consider that the most vital part of their body is their head, than are a group of surgical patients not suffering with headaches.
