Abstract

This article is based on a true experience that occurred after a needle puncture accident in the OR. The surgical technologist involved felt that her experience would be beneficial to many. With the fear of AIDS being a daily reality to all surgical personnel, daily safeguards cannot be stressed enough. The purpose of the article is to educate surgical technologists in ways to protect themselves at work. The only way to stop AIDS at this time is to prevent its spread. Prevention means education. There is no reason to fear caring for AIDS-stricken patients when precautions are taken.
