Abstract

Although patient care issues will become more complex, the basic ingredients of ethical and legally "safe" medicine will remain-quality medical care buttressed by quality patient-physician relationships. Teaching hospitals and program directors must assist residents in accomplishing these goals. Our successes will lead to further improvement in the quality of patient care and medical education-and hopefully to a better end than the "big crunch" proposed by Hawking.
