Support services enable elderly people to remain at home.

Abstract

This paper describes the community rehabilitation team's role in providing services which enable the elderly to remain in their familiar surroundings. The occupational therapist's contributions as a member of this team are outlined, including environmental modifications and adaptations, activities of daily living training, and use of activities to meet specific aims. Finally, the importance of the team members'p attitude is discussed. A positive and understanding attitude is a determining factor in the success of intervention programs for the elderly.
