Abstract

This article has attempted to provide a broad stroke overview of some of the populations who are effectively denied adequate or any access to health care in our country. As there are multiple barriers to access, as illustrated earlier, so too social workers and discharge planners must be cognizant of the various ways that they can provide entree to health care for those who are disenfranchised. In a succeeding article, we will explore avenues for individual advocacy as well as for systematic change in the delivery system that can be effectuated by social workers and discharge planners.
