Abstract
Recruitment of nursing staff to theatre departments is a constant concern. Vacancies are being advertised and re-advertised and study days and articles on recruitment are increasing in number. In an attempt to improve recruitment to theatre nursing, NATN has produced a video package. This package consists of a promotional video which follows a patient through a theatre department, highlighting the different theatre nursing roles, and a teaching pack which gives a brief statement and reading list on issues such as advocacy and risk management. In order to present an effective recruitment strategy, extensive research and evaluation must take place. This study proposes a preliminary evaluation of the promotional video. The teaching pack was not evaluated in this study but the reading list was viewed favourably by some post-registration theatre nursing students.
