Similarly, reduction of N-tert-butoxycarbonyl-3-oxopiperidine-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (17) with fermenting baker's yeast gave racemic N-tert-butoxycarbonyl-3-hydroxypiperidine-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester [(+/-)-18] diastereoselectively.
