The initiative was co-ordinated by the National Childbirth Trust, with initial funding from the Department of Health. The guidelines have been endorsed by the Royal College of Midwives, the Neonatal Nurses' Association, UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative and the British Association of Perinatal Medicine, and are supported by the Department of Health.
