The particles were shown to remain for hours in the blood stream before being cleared mainly by the liver. Most of 59Fe was eliminated from the body and recovered in the feces within a week. Novel superparamagnetic particles coated with a phospholipid and a surfactant were characterized and evaluated in vivo.
