Gene therapy for kidney disease.

Abstract

This article reviews the field of gene transfer with regard to applications of interest in nephrology. Excellent general reviews of gene transfer concepts and vectors have been recently published; therefore, only the briefest review on these topics is included. The focus here is primarily on methods used for gene transfer into the kidney and on potential applications. Because this field is in its infancy, much of the writing is speculative.
