DAPI, a simple sensitive alternative to ethidium bromide staining of DNA in agarose gels.

Abstract

We describe a simple procedure to stain DNA in horizontal agarose gels using 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI). The method has the speed and simplicity of ethidium bromide while localizing the dye in the sample, limiting incidental dye contamination.
