Community involvement in solving local health problems

Abstract

With the experience of the Danfa Project as background, in which there were important achievements in maternal and child health, but at costs the country itself could not sustain, a new community-based approach, the Kintampo Project, is described. In this approach, community members through their leadership name the main problems and priorities. Then government and external assistance is brought to bear on these problems in priority order through the local community structure.
