Abstract
The relative merits of computed tomography and transrectal ultrasound are related over a 3 yr experience with prostatic and bladder pathology. Transrectal ultrasound is useful for histological diagnosis of prostatic pathology, the tumour infiltration in prostatic capsule, bladder wall and seminal vesicles and the evaluation of total tumour mass. Computed tomography adds significantly to the clinical evaluation by relating these primary tumour characteristics to the pelvic anatomy and by the detection of regional and juxta regional metastases.
