[Cytology of endometrial carcinoma].

Abstract

The search for asymptomatic endometrial carcinoma is facilitated if the vaginal smears of the following categories of patients are scrutinized with particular care: 1. Smears of postmenopausal patients with excessive maturation of squamous cells of unexplained etiology. 2. Smears of any patient in the 5th decade of life or older who has a history of abnormal bleeding or staining. 3. Smears displaying evidence of marked necrosis and histiocytes. 4. Smears of postmenopausal women containing endometrial cells whether appearing normal or abnormal. 5. Smears from premenopausal women containing endometrial cells 3 days after cessation of menstrual bleeding, and certainly after the 12th day of cycle.
