Among these men, 156, or 36.2 per cent, developed aerotitis following pressurization. Upper-respiratory infection was shown to predispose a man to development of aerotitis; also predisposing were the inability to insufflate the middle ear, and the presence of nasal allergies. The presence of adenoidal tissue and/or dental malocclusion did not appear directly related.
