Abstract
The authors report on the functional and morphologic results after experimental homologous transplantation of the mitral valve. The function of the transplant was studied in 5 animals at 2, 3, 4 and 7 1 / 2 months after implantation by cardiac catheterization, thermodilution and cineangiocardio-graphy. Fourteen hearts from animals who had survived the procedure for 4 hours to 7 ½ months were studied microscopically. The transplanted mitral valve apparatus heals completely in the recipients heart and remains functionally competent during the time of observation
